Dr Lai Jen Ming obtained his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2008. After completing his National Service in 2012, he began his Hand Surgery specialty training in the NHG Residency Program and was accredited as a Specialist in Hand Surgery in 2018.
Dr Lai was appointed as an Associate Consultant in the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery from 2018-2020. In 2020, Dr Lai was awarded the Ministry of Health (MOH) Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship to train in Microsurgical Reconstruction in Taiwan. After spending a year as a Consultant in TTSH, Dr Lai served as a Consultant in the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Department of Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery while also providing coverage to KK Women & Children’s (KKWCH) for paediatric hand surgery emergency cases.
From 2018-2024, Dr Lai concurrently served as a member of Woodlands Health (WH) Department of Orthopaedic Surgery where he played a pivotal role in the setting up of a Hand Surgery service in an upcoming fully integrated healthcare campus while being an advocate for patient safety and quality care. He was a member of the hospital Quality Assurance Committee and served as Chairperson/Vice-chairperson of the 2023/2022 WH Quality Day organising committees.
Dr Lai is an experienced hand surgeon in the areas of hand, wrist and peripheral nerve injuries, and has a special interest in wrist arthroscopy and minimally invasive surgery. He served as Co-chairperson and Faculty of the Singapore AO Masters – Fractures of the Hand & Wrist Course in 2022 and continues to be involved in education as an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor.
Dr Lai currently serves as a Specialty Board Member of the Chapter of Hand Surgeons, Academy of Medicine Singapore (AMS), and as a member of the Faculty of Medical Experts, AMS.
He has been a Visiting Consultant with the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) Department of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2019 and continues to provide support for wrist arthroscopy cases. He also continues to be a Visiting Consultant at Singapore General Hospital Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery department.
In his spare time, Dr Lai enjoys basketball, rock climbing, and martial arts.
Dr Lai served as a member of the NHG Wounds iCare Collaborative (WiCC) Research and Clinical Workgroup from 2020-2024, and his research interests include the areas of wound healing and use of biological scaffolds for regenerative medicine.
